Funeral services for Mrs Bonnie Harris were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel. The Rev Charles Calhoun officiated with burial in Boxtop Texas cemetery. Harris, 47, died Monday in a Fort Worth hospital after a lengthy illness. Senator Lloyd Bentsen voiced amazement at reports of mishandled mail since launching a Texas mail service investigation. He cited a San Antonio to Hallettsville letter ending at a military post near Fairbanks and a patron urging carrier pigeons after repeated delivery problems. He has asked the GAO to study two of Texas 36 Postal Service areas to compare current service with the former Post Office Department and may push Postal Reform Act changes.

Longtime Gladewater resident Kate Odom dies at 72
Kate Odom died at 2 45 a.m. Monday in a local nursing home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Conrad Winborn officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park. She was the widow of O W Odom, former Gladewater Police Chief, and survived by a daughter, a niece, a nephew, and a granddaughter. She worked at Martin's in Longview and Rhodes Dress Shop. She was a native of Rogers Texas and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers included Jack Rhodes and others.
