Ben L. Turner dies Friday in Gladewater rites Sunday

Ben L. Turner age 63, longtime Gladewater resident and former Dunbar, Texas mechanic, died Friday morning after an illness. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 2 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Charles. burial in Dunbar cemetery. He leaves four sons G. J. E. Turner Sabine Clyde A. Turner Kenneth H. Turner and Archie Turner four daughters Mrs Glenna Weatherford Mrs Bennie Owens Mrs Frances Whitlock Captain Gloria Mae Turner a brother J Mack Turner and a sister Mrs Myrtle Tadlock plus 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Grandsons to pallbear.

Govt official outlines SALT progress and risks at college assembly

Charles N. Van Doren of the U S Arms Control and Disarmament Agency spoke to Ambassador College students about SALT aims with the Soviet Union. He described agreements as a high point in postwar arms controls, warned nuclear weapons have limited utility, and noted efforts to curb proliferation and prevent first strike capability. He stressed mutual deterrence and the ongoing need to restrain testing and arms spirals.
