All girls in grades 3 through 8 interested in becoming Girl Scouts are invited to a meeting at the Boy Scout Hut on Lake Gladewater Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. Bring your mothers sponsors urged. Chamber notes high demand for Halloween Carnival booths with no space left.
Tickets are on sale for the Municipal Hospital Auxiliary annual style show brunch set for Saturday October 9 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church lower auditorium. Proceeds fund a Lanier Tel Edisette system costing 3375 dollars. The event features fashions from Rhode s Up Town Shop Daniel s JC Penney and the Pro Shop with tickets at the door and contributions welcome. AARP meeting date changes to Thursday October 7 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center to accommodate a trip to Arkansas.
Ground was broken for the Gladewater Federal Savings and Loan Association’s new 5200 square foot building at the LaFayette Boulevard and North Main Street intersection across from Hart Hospital. The project, valued at 400000 dollars, is designed by Leland A. Guinn of Longview with Kerr Engineering and Construction Company of Kilgore as general contractor. The facility will be a third larger than the current 300 West Pacific Street building, with plans to move in about six months.
A regional poll shows President Ford leading Carter by two points in Gladewater and Longview with many undecideds. East Texas trends suggest Ford could win in November while one voter intends to back Lester Maddox.

Brenda Gullett of Gladewater helped police expose two armed robberies in Longview. She was working at Don's Shamrock Station when a juvenile thief demanded the safe and forced her to drive him. She fled and called authorities. the suspect and an accomplice were later taken in for questioning connected to a liquor store assault as well.
Harold Wells and wife Linda expand State Farm presence with a 1300 square foot antique brick building on North Main formerly Dayton Strawn land. The office opens in about four weeks with Bernie Capps as secretary joining the staff.
