Longview businessman Sam E. Tanner has purchased the Cozy Theatre and building in Gladewater and will reopen it for patrons on December 18. Tanner, formerly East Texas Theatres vice president and general manager, guided theatre operations for 36 years before Gulf States Theatres acquired the circuit.

John Stone Dies at 79 Rites Held in Gladewater
John T. Stone 79 of Gladewater died Thursday after a long illness at a local hospital. Services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Brannen and Reverend Reagh officiating. Burial followed at Gladewater Memorial Park. Stone was born July 12, 1890 in Birmingham Alabama and was a retired Humble Oil Company pumper. He lived in Gladewater since 1931 and belonged to First Methodist Church. Survivors include wife Mary Alice Stone two children C M Stone Viola Jenkins and Nancy Webb one brother D A Stone and two sisters Ola Edwards and Lacey Edwards. Pallbearers were Charles Pool Jimmy Bartlett W H Steegall E R Rees E T Gary and Charles Adams honorary pallbearers were Humble Oil Company employees.
