Principal O G Johnston reported to the Gladewater School Board on the new middle school program. He noted 442 students enrolled with a 94.5 percent attendance rate and outlined the seven period day, required subjects, and early emphasis on science and typing in grades six through eight.
A survey shows rising incomes in Rusk County with 21.9 percent earning 5 000 to 8 000 dollars after taxes and 12.7 percent in the 8 000 to 10 000 bracket. Other items note a postponed corporation court in Sulphur Springs and HEW compliance hearings in Marshall while Bonham highlights middle school programs and an experimental independent study group for eighth graders.
White Oak voters approved 1.2 million dollars in general obligation bonds, with 739000 tied to an extensive sewer system now underway serving about 75 percent of homes. A 700000 bond passed by nine votes in February. January 1966 saw a 530000 issue.
The Crimson Masque Players of Gladewater High School will stage Night of January 16 in the local auditorium Monday evening December Yh under director Mrs. Oleta K. Allen. Student directors are Paula Turtle and Troy Lockhart. Twelve audience members will be chosen by lot to serve as jurors and will be paid a refund equal to their ticket price. The play centers on a murder trial tied to the speculation surrounding Swedish match king Ivar Kreuger after his rumored death.
Apollo 12, the second U.S. manned lunar landing, will launch Friday from Cape Canaveral to extend lunar exploration begun by Apollo 11. Commander Charles Conrad Jr., CMD module pilot Richard F. Gordon Jr., and LM pilot Alan L. Bean will conduct two lunar excursions totaling about 10 hours on the Ocean of Storms site.
First State Bank reports 214 members collectively disbursed more than $38,000 this year as the Christmas Club wraps up. Carson Kennedy notes the program has grown yearly and invites customers to join the 1970 Christmas Club opening Monday Nov. 17 with family plans available.

Plans are complete for a Saturday 10 am talent show in the auditorium of the community building to kick off Children's Book Week November 16 to 22. Acts include humorous songs, dances, piano solos, recitations and duets by local students, with free admission and a promise of wide variety.

Wright Chester McAda, 46, died Monday morning at Laird Memorial Hospital Kilgore after illness at work on an oil well near Kilgore. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. Burial in Memorial Park. He was born March 7 1923 in Fowlerton Texas and lived most of his life in Gladewater. A WW II veteran tool pusher and Baptist Church member. Survived by wife Myrtle parents Mr and Mrs Matt McAda a daughter Mrs Dorothy Jo Johnson a sister Mrs Bobbie Freeman three step sons Charles Ramsey Jimmy Ramsey Kenneth Ramsey two step daughters Mrs Jerri Ammons Mrs Peggy Kinder and 10 grandchildren.
The Sabine Cardinal band won Outstanding Band in Class A at the Longview Invitational Marching Contest held at Lobo Stadium. Judges awarded a three foot silver and blue trophy to director Larry Edge after Sabine, Timpson, Paul Pewitt, Joaquin and Overton performed. Sabine earned I ratings along with Timpson and Paul Pewitt.
