Gradewater High reports nine weeks cards to be issued

Don Smith principal says grade cards for the first nine weeks will be distributed Monday and need not be returned this year as records are in the office. A computer is used to prepare the cards.

D C Earp of Gladewater Dies After Illness

Gladewater grocer D C Earp died Friday night at a local hospital after a brief illness caused by a heart attack. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 PM at First Baptist Church with burial in Gladewater Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife Maeron three sons Denis Jackie and Sammy three grandchildren and a brother J E Earp.

Bingham Appointed White Oak Mayor

White Oak city council named H. E. Bill Bingham longtime Gregg County official to fill the unexpired term of Porter F. Kutch. He will serve until the April 1970 election and prioritizes expediting the sewer system project valued at about 739000.

United Fund Drive Deadline Approaches November 15

The United Fund Campaign reports $12 719 pledged as of Friday with three divisions ahead of last year Educational Medical Weldon General surpass targets. Donors include Mr and Mrs Jess Wood and John S Adams who sent in checks and many named local contributors across divisions. All workers with cards must collect and return them by the November 15 deadline.

Upshur Countians File for Office in 1970 Elections

Fourteen Upshur residents announce bids or seek re election as county officials. County Clerk O W Loyd faces J B Hill Jr in the race, while filing for District Clerk Leo Williams and School Superintendent Normal Tuel seek re election. District and county judges remain undecided with Lindsey and Holt not yet announced. Registration has reached 2000 with 10000 expected by January 31 1970.

Reward Offered In Death Of Etex Rancher

A 500 reward is posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who killed Jesse L. Rambo, a Kilgore area rancher and oil company superintendent, on September 22 in Gregg County. His body was found beside his pickup after a noon incident at the Sam W. Ross ranch north of Kilgore. no arrests have been made.
