Mrs. Ann Dauster, 29, becomes Gladewater's first female to walk a postal route, joining clerks as the new Route 2 letter carrier. She faces dogs and weather, earns $3.06 hourly on probation, and plans to wear the standard female postal uniform once probation ends.
The 1969-70 membership in District VIII of the Texas State Teachers Association reached 100 percent with 5340 teachers, counselors, superintendents, and principals joining. Mrs. Marilyn Godfrey announced the milestone as part of a district with 20 regions and a statewide total over 122,000 members last year.

East Texas Magazine names Charles K. Devall publisher of Kilgore News Herald as Man of the Month. The Mount Vernon native, who led local papers and served as Mount Vernon mayor, built a long publishing career including the Kilgore Herald and Kilgore Daily News.
Gregg County investigators charged Samuel Perry Jones and Joe Mure Har rel both 18 from Pittsburg with burglary in a Weiser Tire & Appliance Store theft on October 27. Two color TVs and two stereo sets valued at 1200 dollars were recovered from an abandoned farm attic near Canton in Van Zandt County after a farmer reported the finds. The suspects were arrested in Tyler in another case and released on bonds totaling 15,000 dollars.
The Gladewater Jaycees join 6400 chapters nationwide in designating November as U S Jaycees Community Involvement Month. Mayor Melvin Jenkins proclaims the observance here. Plans include Lake Gladewater park improvements with picnic tables and barbecue pits, a 30 new member drive, and weekly Thursday meetings at 7 30 p.m.
A community message invites Jaycees ages 21 to 36 to join this month. Applicants should show interest in local welfare and helping others to qualify for membership.
Friends of the Library and Gladewater Public Library plan a talent show on Saturday November 15 in the community building auditorium as a prelude to Children’s Book Week November 16 to 22. The United Fund Campaign nears its final week with 12043.75 pledged, 1956.26 short of the 1969 goal of 17000. Donations by division include Advanced Mail ing Ministerial Oil Industry and Retail groups plus numerous Honey Toys employees and local donors.
Former Governor John Connally will be the main speaker at an appreciation dinner honoring Congressman Ray Roberts scheduled for November 24 in Greenville. Sponsors of the event are Democratic groups and local organizers.
Former U S Representative Lindley Beckworth announced he will seek a Texas state office after recent developments. Practicing law in Longview, he plans to appear on the 1970 ballot across 29 East and Northeast Texas counties, citing extensive legislative experience in Austin and Washington. He and his wife Eloise Carter have five Texas-based children.
