Gladewater High. 119 Seniors Graduate in Stadium

Gladewater High School awarded diplomas to 119 seniors in a Friday night commencement at Bear Stadium. One third earned honors with an average of at least 90, and several received major scholarships including amounts totaling thousands. Also noted were parade preparations for the Gladewater Round-Up on June 9 and ongoing plans for a new 30-unit elderly housing project investigated by NBA with local officials and HUD approval sought.

Missing Glade woman found by husband

The decomposed body of Pauline White, 50, missing since April 26, was found by her husband Monroe White in a muddy river bottom near Glade Creek and the Sabine River in southwest Gladewater. Police ruled death an accidental drowning after autopsy was not performed. Funeral services set for Monday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home with burial in Starrville Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, her father George Rayburn, a sister Nita Andrews, and four brothers.

Calling hours for the reception honoring Gladewater's five new doctors and their wives are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Pycatt on Country Club Road have opened their home for the affair. Gladewater and area citizens are invited to attend. Members of the Gladewater Municipal Hospital Auxiliary and Gladewater doctors and their wives have been invited to be in the house party.

Bears, Rusk vie in regional baseball series Tuesday

GHS Bears host Rusk High Tuesday in the first game of a two out of three regional series at Bear Park. Game two goes to Rusk Thursday at 4 pm with a potential decisive game Friday at Tyler R E Lee Park. Athletic Director Bill Waters urged fans to attend to back the Bears.

Contract let for new courts at Middle School

The school board held a special session and opened bids for two new tennis courts at Middle School. C&G Construction submitted the lowest bid for concrete and asphalt totaling 44 899 while other bidders included Brown Company and Muckleroy. The architect favored concrete for durability and color was rejected to save costs. The project omits lighting and the courts will be enclosed by a 10 foot chain link fence with three openings to prevent bicycle use.
