Friend of Education award to Dr Henry in Gladewater

Dr Walter Henry, Gladewater dentist and former school board member, received the Friend of Education award from the local Texas State Teachers Association chapter. The event featured installation of 1971 72 TSTA officers and a candlelight ceremony symbolizing unity in the teaching profession.

Porter Improves at V A Hospital in Shreveport

Donald R. Porter injured last week shows signs of improvement and is receiving care at the V A Hospital in Shreveport Louisiana. Friends may write to him in care of the hospital room 27 fifth floor. Scout Troop 194 plans a car wash behind the fire station Saturday with cars washed for one dollar to fund Scout camping. The American Legion Auxiliary schedules its annual Poppy sale for Friday May 28. The Mirror apologizes to Jim Langrey of the Gladewater High School Band for missing Sangrey’s two tenor sax solos at the Spring Gladewater Band Concert.

Friday night in the high school cafeteria honored six long serving Gladewater school staffers including three retirees Clipus Webb 31 years Howard Dunagan 29 years and Joe Childs 21 years with 15 and 5 year pins awarded to Sam Dalton Ray Cody Houston and Malcom Landers. special guest Phil Huckabee entertained before a two course meal.
