News Director To Speak To Union Grove Seniors

Union Grove High School seniors will receive diplomas in commencement exercises at 8 p.m. Friday May 28 in the high school auditorium. KLTV news director Ralph Johnson will be the guest speaker. Johnson, Wayne University graduate, serves on multiple boards and has taught speech and radio courses.

Domed New Orleans Stadium Fails House Vote Amid Cost Rise

In Baton Rouge opponents halted a constitutional revote plan on the domed stadium project as costs balloon from 35 million to about 150 million. Bond sales of 113 million were postponed by the Exposition and Stadium District Commission amid ongoing legal troubles.

McIntyre Services Held for University Student

Funeral services for James Lee McIntyre II 21 of White Oak were held Tuesday at 2 PM in Longview with burial at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. He died in Galveston after a short illness and was a University of Houston student and Marine Corps veteran. Survived by parents sister and grandfather.

Death by Own Action Ruled in New Mexico Man’s Death

Justice of the Peace George L. Smith ruled death by own action in the case of Reiley Cooper Luckie 48 of Eunice New Mexico. Luckie died from a gunshot wound at Jaycee Park Lake Gladewater Sunday night around 9 56 p m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Luckie’s body was sent to Sonora New Mexico for burial. Arrangements in Gladewater were by Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. He was a WWII naval veteran born in Sutton County Texas and survived by wife Irma and his parents.

Postage Machines Dispense New 8-Cent Stamps

Postmaster J P Parrish reports gladewater machines now dispense eight cent and eleven cent stamps under a temporary rate increase. First class stamps rise to eight cents and air mail to eleven. Machines show minor disruption during the transition but remain operational with new stamp denominations and parcel post provisions.

Auto-Cycle Crash Injures Gladewater Man in Shreveport Hospital

Donald Earl Porter 31 is in serious condition after a motorcycle auto crash early Sunday. He suffered broken ribs a punctured lung and internal injuries after his Yamaha struck near the Gregg Smith county line. Passenger Jimmy Stevenson had minor bruises. Cathrin Margaret Talton 1965 Ford driver was charged with driving while intoxicated. Porter was cited for parking on the roadway. Highway Patrolmen Ellis and Burdette reported the car skidded after applying brakes.

New Reporter Brenda Johnston Joins Mirror Staff This Summer

Brenda Johnston, a University of Texas journalism major from Dallas, will assist on The Mirror reporting desk in summer. She plans to graduate in December and may join Vista after, with future aims in broader reporting or a White House campaign trail. Milestone note follows about 1970 pen production at Milford plant.

East Texas teachers receive oil industry fellowship

Eighteen East Texas teachers are awarded fellowships to attend the Fourteenth Annual Petroleum Institute for Educators at the University of Houston June 14 to July 2. New Presbyterian Church Minister Opens Three Month Ministry

The Rev Bill Hedrick pastor of St Andrew Presbyterian Church Longview begins a three month ministry at Gladewater First Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Services are at 845 am with invitation to attend. Hedrick, born in Arkansas, studied at Davidson College and Austin Seminary and completed a B D in 1965. He and his wife reside in Longview with their three month old son.

Fire Chief Harold Potts and wife announce the birth of granddaughter Bridgett Renee Hardwick at Good Shepherd Hospital Longview at 8 37 am Tuesday. She weighs 8 pounds 13 ounces and is 21 inches long.

Gregg Voters Reject All Four State Amendments

In Gregg County and Gladewater voters defeated all four proposed amendments while only Proposition 1 bonds for $100 million to improve local sewage treatment passed statewide. Kilgore and a few locales gave narrow support. turnout was light with about 3,000 county voters.
