Boxing to Cheerleading: Don Humphries Longtime GHS Leader

Don Humphries, Gladewater High School Vocational Automobile Technology teacher, excelled as a student in boxing and cheerleading at GHS. He earned a miniature gold boxing glove and robe, fought as a featherweight, and later praised by coach R E Bury. Humphries recalls Patton as a key influence and emphasizes honesty and self‑reliance, with humor about his watermelon capers and a Ford Parts and Sales Award from 1958. He also enjoys farming on his Kilgore Highway property and would play A J Foyt in film fantasy.
