Mrs Reynolds Hosts Herbert Humphries Delights Her
Mrs Flora Reynolds welcomed her son Herbert Humphries of Los Angeles as a guest this week. He traveled from Dallas to Gladewater via McKinney and Greenville, enduring heavy rain and several narrow escapes on waterlogged roads. Humphries, 1950 Gladewater High School alumnus and managing editor at a Los Angeles radio station, had come to Rochester, New York to receive Sigma Delta Chi’s top national award for coverage of the Robert Kennedy assassination. His trip to Rochester followed leaving Gladewater on May 8. Mrs Reynolds called this Mother’s Day gift the finest.

May Lawn Care and Safety Tips for Gardeners
May brings spring chores and lawn care. Fertilize lawns after they start growing and water deeply. Use nitrate or ammonium nitrate per 1000 sq ft and allow blades to dry before applying. Crepe myrtle needs balanced fertilizer, prune suckers, and remove damaged wood. Summer annuals need light fertilizer and hydrangea watering. Elder evergreen leaf drop may alarm. For seniors, remove hazards and wear proper footwear.
