Union Grove Follies Friday Night at School Auditorium

The Union Grove Follies of 69 marks the 22nd annual show to be held Friday May 9 at 8 p.m. in the Union Grove School Auditorium. The event, themed Moon Rocket Revue, features faculty, students, guest stars and a rocket moon image. Buzz Messner will headline with Roxachord organ and Carolyn Langston will sing. The program includes majorettes, the Dixie Dolls, the Brass Rex, and the Speed family string band with Molly Smith and Jane Maddox as featured vocalists.

Indian Chief R H Calloway named Whispering Pines Chief

R H Calloway, caretaker at Camp Natowa for five years, was named Chief of the Whispering Pines during a Friday night Council Fire at Camp Natowa. His granddaughter Charline Walker, a Camp Fire leader, bestowed the title and presented a gift, with great-granddaughters Cinday and Lana Walker and other girls and parents watching. The gathering included a devotional prayer quoting John 3 3 and a reflective plea for personal change.

Gladeites Air Views To Rep John Allen

Rep John Allen of Longview met Gregg County voters in Gladewater to discuss the Legislature. He criticized the retirement bill and pay raise as foolish and predicted defeat on the August 5 constitutional amendment. Allen praised local independence, noted changing attitudes toward federal aid to education, and warned of higher costs as the session winds down. He stressed a bare bones appropriation plan and said a new district court would address rising crime.

R. B. O'Brien Lived Life of Poetry and Plumbing

A veteran Texas plumber and poet, 82, R B O'Brien runs Ace Plumbing in a small home in Kilgore Gladewater area. Born 1888 in Rockton he served in WWI and WWII before settling in East Texas where he raised three children. His verse reflects everyday life, love and faith, contrasting with his hard working persona and long career.

Gladewater High School Choral Concert Planned

The spring concert by Gladewater High School junior and senior choirs will occur Monday at 8 in the school auditorium. The public is invited. Junior and senior mixed choruses along with boys and girls choirs will perform contest pieces.
