Jaycee leaders head to San Antonio convention

Local Jaycee members John Paul Tallent David Holcombe Jerome Den man Don Thompson Mike Ivey Bob Harris and Bob Ullrich leave Wednesday for the Jaycee State Convention in San Antonio returning Sunday The chamber of commerce will sponsor the annual Clean-up Fix up Paint-up week starting next week urging all residents to participate to improve Gladewater The rain gauge read 130 inches by 8 am Wednesday Two memorial books were donated to the Gladewater Public Library Modern Art Movements by Paul Hamlyn in memory of Jerry Bob Wood and Know Your Ancestors in memory of Mrs Joel Smith Over 5000 FHA students from Dallas included locals Becky Price Mary Jane Wiley Karen Hudspeth and Paula Jaggers The group visited Ports O Call La Tunisia dined at the Adolphus Hotel and were hosted by GHS Homemaking teachers First come first served for summer Youth Corps applications across schools and the City Manager’s office.

GHS Choirs Stage Formal Spring Concert

The Gladewater Junior and Senior High School choirs directed by Ken Bennett delivered a formal spring concert in the high school auditorium. A large crowd heard pieces planned for the Region IV UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest in Kilgore this Thursday. The finale featured the high school choir performing America Our Heritage, the only non contest number, with the program opening by the Junior High Boys Chorus performing Swing Low Sweet Chariot, The.

Gladewater and Weldon High Schools announced their 1968 69 honor graduates valedictorians and salutatorians. GHS graduates 94 Weldon 23. Valedictorian Susan Mickler and salutatorian Carol Gaston lead GHS with averages above 94. Weldon valedictorian Margaree Hunt and salutatorian Elsie Porter headline. Union Grove Follies Feature Langston Stringer From Longview

Carolyn Langston and Bill Stringer of Longview High School guest star in the Union Grove Follies on Friday May 9 performing a medley from standout shows. Langston, junior, hails from the Langston family of Longview and headlines with her choir and club leadership. Stringer, senior, is an All-State Choir member and Lobos high jumper, also active in Junior Civitan leadership. Local builders and contractors form the Gladewater Home Builders Association with five firms and SWEPCO as charter members. John Paul Tallent elected president, A B McPherson vice president, Charles McChesney secretary, with Tallent stressing closer ties and reliable homes for buyers. Mrs. Pauline Sipes dies in city at 62

Pauline Bell Sipes 62 died on arrival Monday at 12 15 am in a local hospital. A native of Gladewater she returned to the city in March after years in Falls Church Virginia. She retired from the telephone company in Falls Church in January. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Irby Bates officiating. Burial followed at Wood Cemetery. She leaves two sisters and one brother and 13 nieces.
