Short Tax Form Back This Year by IRS Revives Simpler Return

The Internal Revenue Service estimates up to 32 million taxpayers may use the revived short form driven by earnings from wages and salaries. It requires the standard deduction, which has risen to 15 percent of adjusted gross income up to 2000 dollars for individuals or joint filers, and differs from itemizing deductions. If in doubt, taxpayers are urged to rough-compare both options and use the approach that saves more. The guidance notes joint returns generally favor couples while heads of households and widows or widowers with dependents offer specific advantages.
