The chamber of commerce banquet location has been changed to the high school gym and 250 more tickets are available. Tickets may be bought at the chamber office First State Bank or from Ines Lawrence B P Dake or Roy Johnson.
Jarvis Christian College will inaugurate John Paul Jones, its sixth president, during Founder's Day events on March 25. A 10 a.m. sermon by Dr John R. Compton precedes the 2:36 p.m. inaugural address and a reception, with Jones having served as acting president since 1971.
Plant pathologist Dr. J Artie Browning of Iowa State University warns the world faces a serious, lasting food shortage affecting international relations. He cites population growth, limited green revolution gains, and calls for crop diversity and population control to avert global hunger.
Citizens are urged to support the new public library facility in Gladewater with gifts to cover furniture and setup costs. The letter cites a $50,000 gift matching a federal grant, other donations, and no tax increase, but notes the urgent need to place orders within two weeks and collect pledges by July 1, 1973.
Gladewater Public Library hosts Schools Week with exhibit planned by week's end. Garland Ferguson urges residents to donate old school items such as textbooks blackboards slates sticks desks and more. Contact Ferguson at the high school office or librarian Mrs Ellen Bauman to arrange submission.
Warren voters head to the polls on April 7 to elect a mayor and three councilmen. Incumbents J. D. Borman and E. E. Copeland seek re election to the council while T. C. Sturgis runs for mayor. C. E. Smith makes his first bid for a seat on the council.
Gladewater High School choral director Ken Bennett received a Cantorum Feste at Kilgore College Dodson Auditorium in Kilgore honoring his 23 years of service and upcoming retirement. The program featured a 300-strong Region IV choir and highlighted Bennett’s career, education, military service, and community leadership.
