Gladewater Board Clears IGE Plan And School Fleet Upgrades
Gladewater school board reviews the Individually Guided Education program with potential adoption if selected among ten districts. Superintendent Roy Johnson favors IGE, notes no Texas schools yet, and cites a five year rollout timeline with in service training costs. The board approved purchasing two 72 passenger buses and one 54 passenger bus and selling four older buses, aiming to keep fleet under ten years old. They also voted to sell a 1950 half ton and a 1957 half ton pickup. An architect will study a new field house near the track and the district considers site for a proposed house building program for 1972-73 with Medro Barnes named to report in April.

Gladewater High School band plans Florida trip
The Gladewater High School band directed by Buzz Messner plans a Florida trip to Pensacola for a band festival and parades. If approved, buses and drivers will be provided by the city with Band Parents funding other expenses. The group will depart April 20 and return the following Sunday after performing in Kilgore and earning community support.

Kibby J. Johnson, 44, of Route 2, died Monday after a long illness. Born in Franklin County, he lived much of his life in Upshur County and was a retired worker. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Croley Funeral Chapel Gilmer with Elder Lloyd Walls officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, two sons Marvin of Gladewater and Rufus. three daughters Nettie Wright of Tyler, Ethel Childress of Gladewater, and Nettie Moore of Plano. two brothers Joe Johnson of Gilmer and Charlie Johnson Leggett. four sisters Lacy Polt of Maxey, Vannie Nulley of Hearne, Florence Moore of Gladewater, and Alice Sawyer of Gilmer. nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
