Gladewater schools hold a Monday meeting in the middle school cafeteria from 2 30 to 3 30 pm to discuss organic gardening without soil and horticulture. Library offers books on growing, while local residents share duties and community notices feature in town life.
The Chamber of Commerce dedicates its first permanent home in 40 years with a ribbon cutting by Judge Henry Atkinson and Mayor O G Johnston. The event honors community leadership and unity as 400 visitors toured the newly redecorated offices. Royse Ford, Bill Wagner, and Jo Wiley led the opening process.
Mrs. Madie Caldwell, 74, died at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview on Wednesday. Funeral services were held Friday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rosinger officiating. Burial was at Gladewater Memorial Park. She and her husband Ralph O Caldwell lived at 119 Gay Avenue, Gladewater, after moving from Keller, Texas.
Methodist Men president Joel Jones announced a luncheon fundraiser at Jeter Hall from 1 pm to 4:30 pm on Tuesday March 7. Tickets cost 1.50 and are on sale through members or First State Bank, with at the door sales also available. The event features a butter luncheon prepared by J oh Poston and other members.

Attendees from Tradewater include Vivian Dillard Marcella Formby Elizabeth Osteen Nancy Byrd Mayer Averyl Terrell and Louie Ford. Sandra Lloyd from White Oak elected Kilgore College cheerleader for 1972 73.
Gladewater builder developer John Paul Tallent announces a 22 home project in Kay Acres. Five homes completed, construction began after planning approvals. Homes priced at 19 500 with carport and modern finishes. Tallent, 28, a 1966 SFAU graduate, has built 105 homes in five years, 75 in Gladewater.
