The Gladewater High School Band Parents hold a weekly rummage sale on Thursday to Saturday starting at 1 p m next to Rhode's Dress Shop. Donations can be arranged by calling Nadine Troboy Tom Sawyer or Clayton Lann.
Ticket sales for the annual Chamber of Commerce membership meeting and banquet have been brisk during the past week. A full house is expected for the event to be held in the Middle.
The Gladewater Mirror launches a weekly sermonette column submitted by area ministers starting with Garfield Hill of the CME Church. The feature will rotate authors each Sunday and tie into Easter reflections amid local church events and civic notices. Also noted are funeral details for Mrs. Ethel Thompson and community activities including the East Texas Chamber banquet plans and ILPC awards for local schools.
The Gladewater Municipal Hospital board adopted a 1,036,188 budget for 1972 73 and approved a three percent raise for employees effective after March 31. The board also authorized five medical equipment purchases including an image intensifier and portable x ray system.
A devotional prayer citing Joshua 24 15 asks for guidance to place God s will first in all decisions. It requests the Holy Spirit as guide and counselor and ends with Amen.
Warren City schedules an alderman election for Saturday April 1 at Warren City Hall. Polls open in the morning and close in the afternoon. Incumbent kD. Sutton seeks re election along with L A Hancock Ho L Hearnsberger and Claude R Smith who have filed for the posts.
Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds in Gladewater mark 62 years with church service at First United Methodist on Sunday and a Little Lady tea at the Camp Fire Center. Gladewater district now has 20 active groups led by district executive Mrs. Yevon Pilcher and area director Mrs. Dean Leverett. The district board, chaired by Glenn Mayfield, meets monthly as growth continues.
Gladewater High School launches English Communications to improve reading comprehension and writing. Led by Mrs. Lenora Amos and aide Mrs. Belle Fisher, the program uses individualized, self paced work areas, weekly assignments, and audio visual aids. Forty students are enrolled with class caps of ten per room and end of term testing. officials expect rapid expansion to 70 next year.
