Golden wedding date honor for Sharps in Smith County
An open house celebrating the Sharps golden wedding anniversary will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gladewater community building. Rual Sharp and his wife have long farmed in Smith County near Highway 271, raising white face cattle, with five children scattered across Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and San Antonio. The couple met in February 1923 and married after about a year and a half.

Gladewater seeks to honor Dallas Cowboys center Dave Manders as the featured speaker for the All-Sports banquet on Friday March 16 at 7 pm in the high school cafeteria. Gay Avenue school will sponsor a student book fair and learning festival from March 5 to 9. The event, open during Gay Avenue Open House on Tuesday March 6 from 7 to 9 pm in the library, features new books, games, puzzles and activities. Mrs. Minnie Phillips 81 lifelong Gladewater resident died Friday at 1:45 p.m. in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Funeral Sunday 2 p.m. Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel. Survived by three sons Hershell Wills Point Edward W. Phillips Waco William M. Phillips Irving. one daughter Marie Rhodes Columbus. brother Jack Clements Dallas. nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Burial in Rosedale Cemetery. A charter member of Memorial Baptist Church with 40 years in the Ladies Society of the B of LF&E. Grandsons to pallbear. Born January 16, 1892. Married to Riley Phillips, who preceded her in death in 1938. Church services began in her home March 30, 1949 and the church moved to Money Street in 1965.
