Mrs. Bessie Crump Dies at 78 in Gladewater

Mrs. Bessie Annie Crump, 78, died Tuesday midnight at a local hospital. Funeral services set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. B. F Risinger officiating. Burial in Sand Hill Cemetery. Survived by two sons W. B. Nevels Whitesboro Eugene Dunn Gladewater a daughter Mary Brewer Gladewater 14 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren. She was a 43 year Gladewater resident born in Missouri and a Baptist.

All-Girl Rodeo Slated for Gladewater March 31

Gladewater hosts its first all girl rodeo Saturday March 31 at 8 p.m. in Round Up Rodeo arena with events including bareback bronc riding and bull riding. Entry fees total 10 dollars per event, 25 dollars added money, and a special buckle for best all around cowgirl. Money due by 7 p.m. show day. rain date April 8.

GHS Choir Band and Twirlers Win UIL Honors

GHS choral members, band musicians, and twirlers earned UIL honors at two meets last Saturday. Region IV in Nacogdoches produced first division awards for choirs and ensembles and for soloists, with named students from the choir and band receiving top honors. Individual names include Henry Hawley, Regina Hawley, Debra Han cock, Debby Laney, and Debbie Philpott among others.

Gladewater Plans Eight Day Centennial Celebration

Gladewater's Centennial Corporation plans an eight day celebration from July 28 to August 4 with parades, a coronation, religious observances, youth activities, Pioneer Homecoming, a bearded contest, and the production Gladewater 100 produced by Rogers Company. The event includes a time capsule to be opened in 2073 and profits shared with the Chamber of Commerce and Public Library.
