Chinquapin at Lake Loma draws wide acclaim
Upshur County Historical tour members and Texas Forest Service examined a seven trunk chinquapin at Ambassador College Lake Loma. Forester Stephen W. Adams notes the tree is an oddity but not a state champion due to multiple trunks. The largest trunk measures 77 inches around at 4.5 feet, the tree is about 45 to 50 years old, and the specimen enhances Upshur County's scenic appeal.
