Gladewater Man Held in Shooting Death
A Gladewater man, Joseph Cullen Minter Jr., 29, is jailed without bond in Upshur County on murder with malice charges in the shooting death of his wife Jo Ann Minter, 26. The incident occurred about 9 30 p.m. Monday at her father Walker Farrar’s home near Lake Gladewater. Minter was arrested at the hospital and arraigned by Justice of the Peace S Simpson who denied bond.

Memorial Services For David L Buehrle In Mexia
Memorial services were held Tuesday at 10am at First Presbyterian Church in Mexia for David Lynn Buehrle 20 killed in a Sunday two car crash near Coffee City 18 miles southwest of Tyler. He was the son of Rev Walter Buehrle longtime Gladewater pastor. Graveside rites preceded the 11am service. David survived by his parents two brothers a sister and several grandparents.

Funeral services for Jo Ann Minter 26 were held Wednesday afternoon at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev C B Warren officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park. Born in Louisiana she was a lifelong Gladewater resident and is survived by a daughter Jamie Lee her parents Mr and Mrs W L Farrar and one sister Virgie Lee Trotter all of Gladewater.

Honor America Day plans for July 4th celebration
Chamber of Commerce reports completed Honor America Day plans and strong Round-Up Rodeo participation. Highlights include 11 first place horse-guessing winners, mostly Gladewater residents, dress western contests, and a community-wide effort with the city fire department for fireworks. A Little Miss Gladewater contest is planned for girls ages six to ten, with information available at the chamber office. The dairy Queen grand opening is scheduled for Friday June 30 at 10:30 a.m. on North Main Street.

At presstime there was no trace of Diane Wedin, a six foot tall blonde 17 year old reported missing by her mother Frances Wedin. She vanished after saying she wanted to use the car, which was later found parked at home.
