Gladewater readings from the city water filtration plant list daily rainfall for June 13 to 16 totaling 5.4 inches. The year to date for 1977 reaches 38.2 inches, with February and earlier months contributing high totals. Plant superintendent Bobby Leach notes the sab is in good shape and daily capacity now tops four million gallons after recent upgrades.
Public relations director Mrs Jeanne D Hale of Kilgore Junior College shares her personal account of the Rangerettes Ranger Band and Singing Rangers trip to Romania. The first installment appears on page 7 and will be continued Thursday.
Comptroller Bob Bullock announced checks totaling 39.3 million dollars were mailed to 865 Texas cities as June shares of the one percent city sales tax. Through the year, rebates reached 167.1 million, a 15.1 percent rise. Houston led with 7.5 million, Dallas 4.8 million, Fort Worth 1.8 million. Roanoke received 15.79.
Regular Fireman James M. McKinley earned Texas certification after a 335 hour course and holds EMT status after a 120 hour program. Other Gladewater firefighters, including Gothard and Murray, also earned certificates as Kilgore Children's Summer Theater opens June 22 with The Little Blue Horse at Kilgore College.
The Tri-Eastern chapter of the National Foundation March of Dimes donated £200 to Gladewater Municipal Hospital for a continuous oxygen monitor in the nursery. Lester E Wood presented the gift to Paul Bennett and Angela Otasevic in Longview, as the chapter covers Gregg Upshur and Marion counties.
Bullock warned delinquent tavern and club owners will face permit renewals blocked unless they present a Comptroller certificate showing sales taxes paid. Gov Briscoe signed HB 2036, blocking renewal or issuance of alcoholic beverage permits for those owing taxes.
Mae O Dake returns home after three months at Gladewater Municipal Hospital and awaits visitors. Sam Tipps and Steve Tipps visit from Fairfield and plan trips to Desdemona. AARP hosts a covered dish dinner and games at Masonic Hall on June 23 at 5 30 PM. Martha and Jack Redwood visit relatives in Columbus Ga enjoy Lake Gladewater fishing. Gladewater’s 40th rodeo impresses visitors. Revival at Union Grove Baptist Church runs nightly 7 30 through June 26 led by Evangelist Ronnie Starr. Birthday wishes for local residents appear alongside a note about a collie puppy giveaway at 307 Walton.
The Gladewater city council accepted a $381,638.53 bid from John A Petty Construction Co. for first phase dirt work at Municipal Airport pending FAA and Texas Aeronautical Commission concurrence. Project cost totals about $800,000 with federal and state funding plus local support. work begins soon amid protests over cost and impact.
