City Hears Update On Two Lawsuits Against Gladewater

City Attorney Jack Finley briefed the council on pending litigation. The William Booth vs Parr Utilities case, filed November 3, 1974, seeks 30,000 for property damage from a sanitary sewer installation and is docketed as number four with trial set for July 18. A second case, involving the city airport, is at settlement negotiations. details remain undisclosed.

East Texas lawmen hear calls for compassion and reform

Longview attendees at the East Texas Peace Officers Association 26th annual convention heard Special Agent in Charge Ted R. Gunderson urge officers to show compassion for both offenders and victims and to resist lashing out. Attorney General John L. Hill Jr. hinted at a gubernatorial bid after the legislative session, citing strong poll support and thousands of endorsements.

Law enforcement advances noted at East Texas convention

Col Wilson E Speir of the Texas Department of Public Safety told the East Texas Peace Officers Association June 18 20 that Texas has made progress in policing but must cut highway fatalities and major crimes. He cited 665000 major offenses last year 95 percent of populated areas reporting and increasing agency cooperation while noting a drug problem with 53000 cases in 1976 and one in seven offenders under 17. He cited 91 billion miles driven in Texas and discussed open records veto impact.

Emergency room program expands at Gladewater Municipal Hospital

GMH now provides full doctor coverage from Friday 6 pm to Monday 6 am with six rotating physicians from Shreveport Natchitoches Temple and Houston. The new service serves emergency patients and general medical visits, with family doctors retaining patient relationships and a revised fee schedule in place.

Woodle Rites Held for Local Resident J W Woodle

Funeral services for J. W. Woodle 54 longtime Gladewater resident were held Tuesday at 3 p m in the Assembly of God Church in Bogota. Interment followed in Bogota. Gladewater Hospital Board to hear ER coverage report

Gladewater Municipal Hospital board will meet Thursday in regular session to receive a report on weekend ER coverage begun a month earlier and to discuss holiday cover for Friday and Monday. They will review ER financials and the by laws revision for weekend medical staff.
