HUD tentatively approves about 570000 for 128 units in four local housing projects Greenway Village Weldon Homes Greenway Terrace and Pacific Gardens. UG residents protest proposed annexation by city

Twenty four residents spoke at a Thursday public hearing at city hall voicing opposition to a 109.1 acre tract northeast of the city limits joining Union Grove to Gladewater. Opponents cited sewer service concerns and tax implications while supporters and potential builders argued for expanded water service and growth. readings on the annexation ordinance are slated for August 11 and September 8.

Mrs Lucille Green 62 rites held at Lakeview

Funeral services for Mrs Lucille Cooper Green 62 of 210 Lafayette were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with J N Spinks officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Death was due to a heart attack after she was found not breathing Thursday morning. Survived by husband Caleb C Green a daughter Barbara Green Davis a sister Hattie Wittich and four grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asked donations to the Texas State School for the Deaf.

Gladewater Hospital to Advertise Bids for 20 bed Wing

Gordon Mayer outlined a building program at the Gladewater Municipal Hospital board meeting. The board voted to advertise bids on Aug 15 for a new 20 bed wing and expanded business offices and laboratory, with bids opened Sept 15 and potential acceptance or rejection.

Welsh Power Plant Dedication Honors SWEPCO Leader

The Welsh Power Plant near here was dedicated with retired SWEPCO president J. Robert Welsh honored. A bronze plaque naming the $100 million 528000 KW plant was unveiled as about 450 dignitaries from East Texas and Louisiana attended.
