Pioneers burial site revived in Gladewater centennial cleanup
The old Hagan Gay Cemetery three miles northwest of Gladewater near Lake Gladewater in Upshur County is being cleared and restored. Heritage supporters led by B P Dake and Fay Shepperd have organized the project, aided by donations, as descendants restore graves including the Shepperd family. A state Historical Marker honors Pioneer Mother Elvey Shepperd and the site is known as Shepperd Hagan Cemetery.

City Council tackles sewer delays and zoning change in meeting
The council examined delays in the second half of the sanitary sewer extension started last September and authorized Mayor Johnston to seek promised Gregg County airport help. A zoning change for Ella Hicks property in Malloc Addition to neighborhood shopping was approved after a public hearing with objections over congestion and fire risk. Boothe protested sewer work damage, presenting photos. officials said action is underway.

Rites Held For William A Scarborough In Longview
Funeral services were held at Welch Funeral Home in Longview for William Allen Scarborough who died Thursday evening. He was father of Mrs. James Butler of Gladewater and former manager of William Cameron Lumber Company. Survivors include a grandson Skipper Butler and sister Mrs. Ruby Stockberger. He was born December 1, 1886 in Giddings Texas and moved from Wichita Falls to Gladewater in 1941, later living in Longview and returning to Gladewater in 1968. He belonged to the Lions Club Masonic Lodge and Woodland Christian Church. Pallbearers included Bennie Herford Richard Herbst Glen Harvey Leon Waggoner Brownie Mcuilton and W R Owens.
