Gladewater Pony League All-Stars meet Mt. Pleasant All-Stars Thursday at 8 p m in Gilmer to decide the East Texas Boys Baseball Association crown. Managers John and Larry Cox lead the local squad which won the South Zone championship this past week.
Mrs. Glen Kent notes shoppers at the tea and jam event as Gladewater merchants mark the Centennial with bargains through Thursday to Saturday. One car dealer displays a pickup bedload of car parts all at one price, including items for vintage and recent models.
Local supermarkets warn beef supplies tightening as Phase 4 lifts price controls sparking limits on purchases. Texas outlets report scarce cuts while pork poultry and fish remain available at current prices.
Gladewater marks its centennial with half the celebration completed. Merchants and Industry Day features old fashioned sales and machinery displays downtown. The Boom Days exhibit continues at the public library with drill tools on view. Industrial tours visit Honey Toys Building Holiday Plates Shipp's Marine Spencer Harris. Friday includes a men’s breakfast and tennis, Saturday 2 p.m. time capsule burial at Lee Library. Fireworks by Burnett Fireworks Co. follow the pageant. Centennial Queen Jerry Mauldin crowned. pie and cake contests announce winners Audry Cain Frances Whitlock E E Wilson Faye Mackey. recipes to be printed Sunday. Autograph party Friday at Centennial HQ with editors Mayer Barker Osteen.
Gladewater and Union Grove announce Aug 20 as first day of classes with regular schedules. New student registration on opening day. transfers completed. In-service for teachers Aug 13–17. holidays listed across the fall and spring terms. buses begin routes Monday morning August 20.
The centennial pageant features a 300 person cast and runs four nights starting Wednesday with performances at 9 p.m. and pre show entertainment at 8 30 p.m. Each night continues through Saturday in a showcase of local history and industry.
