Retirement luncheon honors Mrs E D Dillard
Mrs E D Dillard retires July 31 after fourteen years as secretary of the local State Department of Public Welfare office. A noon luncheon at St. Clair Restaurant Monday honored her with Martha Helen Abbott as host and emcee. Attendees included SDPW staff from Longview Gilmer Kilgore and FE Dillard, husband of the honoree.

Oak Manor expands to 121 beds with new wing
Oak Manor Nursing Home, operated by Pioneer Nursing Centers Inc. of Frederick, Oklahoma, added a 5,000 square foot wing increasing beds from 93 to 121 and boosting total value to about 750000. The facility now houses 91 patients with 56 staff, including eight LVNs, and plans another expansion within a year.

Harvey Bowlin dies after lengthy illness
Harvey O. Bowlin, 52, of 802 West Quitman, died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after a prolonged illness. He had been ill since February and will lie in state at Mangrum Funeral Home Center until Thursday. Services are at 2 p.m. at Tennessee-Presbyterian Church near Teneha conducted by Rev. D. S. Neel. Burial follows in Tennessee cemetery. Survived by wife Tommie, three daughters Norma Jean Richardson, Johnnie Faye Burge, Paula Sue McGee, one brother Ralph C. Bowlin, six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. The family resided in Gladewater one year. Bowlin was a Norton Refrigeration truck driver based in Texarkana.

The Gladewater School Board adopted the 1973-74 budget after a public hearing and welcomed three new teachers Patricia Spencer Harrison Mary Ellen Garton Bradley and Mrs Lee Draper Elder plus coordinator for special education Maleta Blessing. Vocational building trades house bid went to W E Gray East Mountain for 22600 with two other bids. An apartment on Woodrow Street sold for 451 to Billie Guthrie.
