Upshur County Debates Texoma Pipeline Pros and Cons
At a special meeting Upshur County Commissioners weighed the 30 inch Texoma pipeline across the county. The project cost 121 million dollars and will run from the Gulf to an Oklahoma refinery boosting property values but raising concerns over road damage and property condemnations. Louie Smith testified on road crossings with maps of the route while officials debated drilling through hard surfaced roads versus cutting into oiled roads. Officials noted heavy truck damage in Pet. 4 and set an October target for completion with the line joining the full system afterward. Sun Oil Company and about nine partners back the project with a 2.1 million barrel capacity and a 2.5 mile per hour flow over nine days.
