Jacks onville hosts its lth annual Tops in Texas rodeo July 11 12 13 and 14 featuring the Hager twins from Hee Haw. Gladewater Centennial Week Plans Unfold at Chamber Luncheon
Chamber of Commerce directors announced Aug. 2 Merchants Day with old fashioned sales and displays. A vintage car exhibit of 1973 models and farm machinery displays are planned, with a centennial caravan tours and a large pageant titled Gladewater 100. Centennial events extend to July 28 coronation, July 31 Ladies Day coffee, and a September industrial tour from Dallas Love Field.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. June Warwick 76 longtime Gladewater resident who later lived in Fort Worth. Burial followed at Gladewater Memorial Park. Survivors include four daughters three sons two sisters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services for J. M. Kiker, 59, were held at Calvary Baptist Church in Gilmer with Rev. M. D. Hodges officiating. Burial followed in Gilmer City Cemetery. Kiker, a civil engineer, died Sunday at 9:15 a.m. after a long illness. He lived in Gladewater four months at 323 W. Tyler. Born December 29, 1913 in Clinton Oklahoma, he was a Gilmer church member. Survived by wife Lene and two sons Joseph and Gordon Riker, both of Gladewater.

Friday night downtown Gladewater hosts a promenade at 8 p.m. featuring the Glenwood Square Dance Club and a Dixieland band. A community sing led by B B Fields and various Belles groups join the event, with a caravan planned for Saturday through Kilgore Overton and Tyler to promote the centennial. Centennial coins, limited to 200 sets, are on sale at headquarters with edge numbering and future time capsule burial in 2073. New merchandise arrives including dresses and bathing suits ahead of the eight day celebration.

Shepperds donate Texana collection to Gladewater Archives
Mr and Mrs John Ben Shepperd of Odessa presented the Gladewater Archives with a large set of research notes early maps unpublished manuscripts and copies of old papers related to Gladewater and Gregg County. The Texana collection includes 39 volumes plus a cookbook autographed by Mrs Sue Creighton.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Bobbie Simmons Ford
Funeral services for 66 year old Mrs Bobbie Simmons Ford were held Monday at 4 pm at Gladeview Baptist Church with Rev J A Allen officiating. Burial followed in Friendship. She died Saturday noon in a local hospital. A Gilmer native and Gladeview member, she is survived by her mother Mrs Ora White and a large family including Kenneth Bragg Melva Saunders Doris Snyder and 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
