Gladewater Man Billy Downing Dies in Tanker Crash
Funeral services were held for Billy Ray Downing 41 of Gladewater after a gasoline tanker he drove exploded on Stallings Drive at Highway 21 following a collision with a pickup driven by Clinton Moore of Nacogdoches. Downing survived by his widow Eula Corene and other relatives.

Burglary Suspect Arrested In Idle Hour Lounge Break In
Samuel Ray Monk 22 of Gladewater was arrested before noon Friday by city police and charged with burglary of the Idle Hour Lounge on U S 271 South. Cash and cigarettes were stolen. Monk was arraigned with bond set at 1000 dollars. Police recovered 100 dollars in silver and cigarettes. Gladewater TARS sponsor a Saturday basketball tourney February 1 at 9 am with girls teams and 25 cent admission to benefit TARS programs.

Goodyear store burglarized for portable color TVs
Thieves broke a rear door window at the Goodyear Store on North Main Thursday night and made off with about a dozen portable color televisions. The managers say most sets were portable color models with a few black and white portables. Police dusted for fingerprints and continue the investigation. no heavy consoles were taken. Congressman Ray Roberts announced a $6,400 FAA planning grant for Gladewater Airport on Thursday.
