Joe McElroy underwent major surgery at Medical Center Hospital Tyler. The Gladewater TARS sponsor a Saturday benefit basketball tourney at GHS gym starting at 9 a.m. Tickets are 25 cents.

Memorial Baptist Church Burns Bond of 75 000 Debt
Memorial Baptist Church in Clarksville marks the payoff of a 75 000 debt borne by members since 1949. A bond burning ceremony Sunday featured crumpled green bonds shriveling in washtubs as the community celebrated financial closure. The congregation organized on April 7 1949 and began services after a dedicated May 6 1949 start.

Gladewater seeks Loop 485 progress amid industrial park plans
Texas Highway Commission heard Gladewater officials led by Mayor O G Johnston and City Manager John Marshall report on acquiring right of way for Loop 485 from Sabine River bridge to Highway 80. Fifteen of 27 parcels bought. 12 remain by May 1. City will fund half of right of way costs and half of 168000 for pipeline relocation.

Phase 1 plan gets go ahead
Gladewater City Council approved a $30 000 EPA grant for phase one study to extend the sewer collection system and plan a new wastewater treatment plant. The move precedes stricter EPA rules by 1976 with chlorination required by December 31 1975 and no engineer hired yet.
