Thomas Eyes Return to Gladewater Council Seat

Incumbent George Thomas and Johnny Dishman filed for council seats as the race grew to three candidates. Thomas, Entex manager and father of three, pledged progress and safety for Gladewater, while Dishman, Dairy Queen owner and first-time candidate, offered no comment beyond needing help in his bid.

Election set at Union Grove School board seats open

Union Grove School board votes to hold an April 5 election for two board seats currently held by Jesse Bailey and Tommy Bynum. Polls will be at the school from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The board also approved financing for a new 72 passenger bus and finalized the building contract payment.

Senator Jack Ogg of Houston introduces a bill to prohibit smoking on planes trains elevators hospitals and museums unless a separate smoking area is provided. The measure aims to protect non-smokers rights and would impose a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to 100 dollars.

Liberty-Danville water district abolished after prolonged dispute

The Liberty-Danville Fresh Water District No. 1 was dissolved by the Liberty County board after six years of contention. The action follows approval to seek a district court judgment nullifying the district and involves oil companies agreeing to cover up to fifty thousand dollars of outstanding debts. The vote included three yeses and two abstentions. The move ends litigation tied to Case No. 1332-74B and releases Kilgore from a post formation water contract and related bond issue.
