The Gladewater Independent School District maintains 25 buses under Transportation Director George Kendall. The fleet logged 157 344 miles last year across 6.3 world circumnavigations. Seventeen routes exist across Upshur Gregg and Smith counties with a 4 person maintenance crew and two Driver Education cars. The operation emphasizes in-house service, nightly storage in a former World War I N Y A building, and year round upkeep. Kendall, a Oklahoma born veteran turned East Texas manager, took the post in 1964. his wife Patsy works with Kilgore G T C. They have three children and the bus barn rings with a constant alert to keep the yellow fleet rolling.
