Insurance rate cuts save Texas homeowners a year

The Texas State Board of Insurance ordered rate reductions effective January 1 totaling about 25 million dollars a year for dwellings. Extended coverage and homeowners policies saw cuts ranging from four to 30 percent by region, with fire rate reductions of 12 percent for brick veneer and similar structures and nine percent for frame houses. A three percent increase was set for brick dwellings, though they comprise only two percent of housing. Budget reform urged as legislators return to work.
