Fire Department records show ambulance runs doubling in five years

The city logged 516 ambulance runs in 1972 with 321 inside and 195 outside city limits. Costs reached 10,906 for service with 6,000 collected, leaving a 4,906 deficit. Fire calls totaled 233 in 1972 with 179 inside and 67 outside. grass and house fires formed major components.

Garner Ted Armstrong to Speak in Tyler and Shreveport

New clothing plant to locate in Gregg County

Robert W. Cargill and Ronald E. McKinney announce a new women's wear apparel plant to be built in the former North Chapel school building in Gregg County. The arrangement, via Longview Industrial Commission, positions the project as a Gregg County venture with Cargill leading lease negotiations. The site lies on FM 1252 near state highway 135, about 14 miles from Gladewater.

State Board orders rate cuts for homeowners policies in Texas

Insurance actions include reductions in homeowners and extended coverage policies for windstorms hailstorms explosions riots smoke and aircraft or vehicle collisions. No fire rate cuts yet but the board will order reductions in fire coverage and liability theft protections under extended coverage plans.

Water use soars in Gladewater amid growth

City officials say Gladewater residents used 117 gallons per person daily as population 6,000 grows. In 1972 the lake pumped 256,314,800 gallons, up from 220,970,500 in 1971 and 195,562,000 in 1970, with August and September the peak months. Water samples all met Texas State Health standards, and rainfall reached 55.9 inches in 1972.
