Gladewater Sees EPA Grant Increase For Sewer Project

The City of Gladewater will receive a grant boost from 120060 to 163720 dollars under EPA funding for project WPC Tex-902 sanitation improvements. The total project cost is 286207 dollars with the rest covered by a 1968 bond issue. increases were announced by Rep. Ray Roberts and mirror gains in nearby Longview and Kilgore. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Alva Jones, 70, in Gladewater with burial at East Mountain Cemetery. she was survived by a daughter and several relatives.

Funeral services held for Mrs Alma Cox

Funeral services for 86 year old Mrs Alma Cox were conducted Wednesday at 10 a m in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Curtis Allen officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery. A former Gladewater resident she died Monday in a Gunter nursing home after a long illness. She had lived in Gunter about 10 years after leaving Gladewater. Pallbearers were Clyde Sublett Collins Hounsell Wylie Thomas C D Pittman A B McPherson and Walter Kirby.

Story Hour Returns as Pressures on Readers Grow

Preschoolers are reminded that regular Wednesday morning story hour will resume at 10 a.m. The library reports a large circulation of paperback books and invites donations. J. B. Poston received a gift of health care, visiting a Houston heart specialist for possible surgery and an arthritic condition causing pain. Gladewater schools operate 24 buses with 23 drivers and varied fleet ages. Oldest bus is 1958. Rickey Wedin completed basic training at Fort Polk and heads to further instruction before Fort Sill.

Gladewater Building Boom Reports Record Permits in 1972

The City of Gladewater issued a record 1,252,224 in building permits in 1972 including 117,000 for the Gladewater Lee Public Library and 132,000 for a school athletic facility. Permits in 1971 totaled 883,522, with 50 new homes. total homes built or under construction since 1968 reached 144.

Gladewater High School Band hosts its second invitational twirling festival January 13 in the high school gym. Last year’s event drew over 1000 twirlers.
