Governor seeks delay in Texas health systems agency designation

Gov. Dolph Briscoe urged HEW to continuance the first cycle designation of health system agencies in Texas. A 90 day delay is sought to allow public awareness and final rules to be published. NETHSA and NETCHR both prepared applications for Area 7 and Area HSA competition amid rural hospital concerns.

Lee Trek Dates Set in March for Farm Tour

Three Sundays in March mark Gladewater Bicentennial Committee tours to Mrs. T. W. Lee’s farm off the Tyler Highway. Departures from downtown Gladewater at 2 p.m. March 7 14 and 21. Tickets 2 per person or 5 per family with proceeds funding downtown beautification and other Bicentennial projects.

First Baby Born at GMH in Over Three Years

Nickey Dean Foster, five pounds 15 ounces, arrived Thursday February 19 at Gladewater Municipal Hospital, the first birth in the facility in more than three years. Dr Nasser Vatankhahi joined the maternity staff as the baby’s cesarean delivery and discharge marked a return to active nursery operations. The father serves at Ft Gordon. mother Mrs Nickey Lee Foster and their 17 month old Michael Gene greet the newborn with nurses and grandparents nearby.

White Oak School PTA held a tea to honor Judy Meredith for 44 years of service. A plaque and corsage were presented by officers, with registry, pink carnations, fruit punch, and snacks featured. Molly Cumbie Rites Set in Gilmer for 83

Funeral services for Mrs. Molly Cumbie 83 will be held at 1 p m Thursday at Croley Funeral Home Gilmer with Rev J A Allen officiating. She died Tuesday in an Arlington hospital after moving from Gladewater to live with her daughter. Burial is in West Mountain Cemetery. She is survived by a son, a daughter, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
