Porter Rites Held In East Texas Funeral Chapel
Funeral services for Clarence C. Porter were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. B. F. Risinger Jr. and Rev. Irby D. Bates officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Park. Porter died Monday at 1:30 p.m. at home. He was a First Baptist Church member, born in Montgomery Texas, moved to East Texas in 1931, and worked for several oil companies before and after WWII. He is survived by wife Ida York Porter, nephews Alvin Porter Harold Porter Jerry Porter, two nieces Betty Holder and Mary Porter. Pallbearers were H. L McKaig Horace Carmichel Wallace Borman Lyle Hendrix Jack Earp and M. E. McFerren.

Mrs. Willie Cochran 80 Dies in Gladewater Rites in Emory
Funeral services were held at Dunbar Union Church for Mrs. Willie Cochran born August 31 1894 in Emory. She died February 11 in a Gladewater nursing home and is survived by two daughters two sons fourteen grandchildren seven great grandchildren two brothers two sisters and an extended family network. The Rev Billy Lomax officiated and burial was in Dunbar Cemetery.

Gladewater board protests RRC oil unitization order
The Gladewater Independent School board met in regular session and passed two resolutions opposing oil field unitization and urging rescission or six month delay of Railroad Commission special order 20 4195. The board backed SB 30 and HB 40, approved Pritchard Abbott for tax assessment duties, and discussed library programs and staff rehiring. Funeral services for H I McAfee were announced.

Mrs. Ruby Chasteen Dies at 78 in Paradise Hill
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ruby Isabell Chasteen 78 of Paradise Hill at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel. Born April 25, 1897 in Pennsylvania she lived in Gladewater 44 years and died February 10 in a local hospital. Survivors include sons Jim and Richard. daughters Eliana Cody Nora Collette and Richard Glen Rupard. grandchildren Charles Cody and 16 more. 12 great grandchildren.

Chamber Luncheon Debates Oil Field Unitization and Regulations
The Chamber of Commerce held a semi monthly luncheon led by President Roy Johnson. A resolution opposing a Railroad Commission amendment and two bills mandating compulsory unitization was approved and mailed to officials including Senator Peyton McKnight and Representative Jimmy Mankins. Jackie Earp was elected third vice president. Partain received a Big G award for MFA Insurance and Par Tain Oil. The annual meeting and banquet set for March 21 will feature Senator McKnight as speaker.
