New Ben Franklin Store Named in Gladewater
Fort Worth native L A Fulmer Jr takes over as owner operator of the Gladewater Ben Franklin Store. He plans a new 8,400 square foot building on west Highway 80 with completion targeted for June and expands merchandise including Curtis Lathel televisions and Radio Shack gear. Fulmer and his wife Judy, with daughter Jocelyn Amber, will move into 608 Canfield as staff members Debra Jaggers Gladys Lindsey Bobbie Mackey and Kevan Kerns join the team. Former owners Mr and Mrs Paul Drake ran the store for nearly 11 years.

Lonnie Van Zandt and Stan Midler filed for the Gladewater city council bringing the candidate list to seven. Midler, who owns The Sampler with wife Irene and works for Anvil Products, aims to boost local growth and welfare. He is a former Kiwanis president and Cub Scout leader. Van Zandt served nine years as Weldon High School band director.

Installation date to be announced in midsummer. Funeral services for John R Cunningham 81 were held in Longview with interment at Grace Hill Cemetery. He was a WWI veteran and longtime Gladewater resident. He urged city leadership to fairly serve all citizens and listed needs for streets sewers lighting and equitable city government.
