United Fund crosses sixteen thousand dollar mark this week

United Fund Secretary Jo Wiley reports pledges reached 16199 33 this week surpassing the 15500 goal by more than 500. Contributions come from numerous individuals and firms including J C Penney Co and Jobe Drug Co Both firms achieve 100 percent participation. Santa Claus will visit downtown Gladewater Friday and Saturday afternoons.

Bonnie White Rites Pending After Nursing Home Death

Mrs. Bonnie White 68 of 403 North Howard died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. A native of Oklahoma she was a retired package store owner. Funeral services are pending with Malcolm Stone Funeral Home.

Funeral services held for Dora Pace

Funeral services for Dora Pace 87 a longtime Oak Manor resident were set for Thursday at 2 pm in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev Terry Smith and Rev Aubry Pate officiating. Burial follows in Memorial Park. Pace native Groesbeck wife and mother of six sons and three daughters survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

East Texas oil field faces 86 percent crude allowance

The Texas Railroad Commission kept East Texas at 86 percent for January with a proposal to raise to 100 percent opposed by local communities or to split the field with a lower 50 percent in one sector. Chairman Mack Wallace cited declining oil imports as a bright spot, noting U S daily imports at 7.633 million barrels for a four week period ending Dec 9, down 500 thousand from a year ago and over one million less than six months ago.

White Oak council approves Warren fire service contract

White Oak voters will consider a one year contract costing Warren City 2500 dollars for fire protection and ambulance service. Warren previously faced higher charges proposed by Gladewater and Williams. White Oak will provide ambulance service via Longview and may coordinate a new fire truck purchase. The council also approved buying 1.74 acres near the city park for 18500 dollars and forwarded a park resolution.

Gladewater to Observe Monday Holiday Closings

Gladewater plans a Monday holiday with most major businesses closed for a two day break. A few will keep normal hours. The First State Bank and Gladewater Federal Savings and Loan plus the post office will observe the holiday. Mirror employees have a three day break and the Sunday edition will be delivered Saturday morning with the office closed Saturday and Monday.

Gladewater City Offices Close for Holidays and Tree Recycling

City of Gladewater will close offices Friday through Monday over Christmas and New Year with police and fire services remaining. No garbage pickup on certain dates. Christmas trees that are not flocked or sprowed will be placed at designated Lake Gladewater points to serve as fish feeding and spawning habitats, a practice reported as successful in past years.

Funeral services for Sammy Earp in Gladewater

Sammy Earp 23 died Tuesday in a Tyler hospital after a daylong illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at First Baptist Church in Gladewater with Revisions by multiple ministers. Burial followed in Memorial Park under Croley Funeral Home. Survivors include his mother and two brothers. pallbearers listed.
