Four of the happiest youngsters in Gregg County received certificates from Ron Clark Mirror Production Manager on Tuesday. The certificates entitle them to receive a glittering new bicycle just in time for Christmas.
J. D. Ferrell, 72, longtime Gladewater resident and Humble Oil retiree, died after a long illness. Funeral was in Malcolm Stone Chapel with Rev. B. F. Risinger Jr. officiating. burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by wife Elizabeth Pearl, son Sidney, daughter Margaret Chandler, three grandchildren, and a niece.
Rotary Club members are reminded to bring their wives to the Thursday luncheon at the St. Clair Restaurant. The item also notes a birth for Mr. and Mrs. Coy Hill of White Oak, their son Justin Coy born at Hart Hospital weighing nine pounds four ounces and 21 inches.
Gladewater volunteer firemen were honored at their annual banquet Saturday night in the Masonic Lodge dining room. The event was served by members of the Order of the Eastern Star, with Harvey Smith serving as master of ceremonies.
Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Coppedge 55 longtime Gladewater resident died Monday after a lengthy illness. Funeral Wednesday at 3 p.m. Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Conrad Winborn officiating. Burial Memorial Park. Born January 12, 1917 in Marion County Texas, Methodist member. Survived by two daughters Peggy Jo Trull and Virginia Turney, three grandchildren, four brothers and her parents. Her husband Morris preceded her in death May 30, 1967.
Mr and Mrs Michael Peck were injured when their car struck two horses crossing highway 271. Their son Michael Lindley rode uninjured. The couple, returning from visit with Senator and Mrs Lindley Beckworth in Fort Worth, were treated at Gladewater Municipal Hospital and Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, then released.
Mrs. Carrie LeGore 84 died Monday night after a long illness in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Terrell with burial at Terrell Cemetery under Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home guidance. Surviving daughter J D Clemons granddaughter Pat Huggins and great granddaughter Diane plus other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers named J D Clemons Cecil Clemons Donny Huggins and Richard Blalock.
Buck Eagle Sharp announced a free 8 p m kids Christmas party at the old Faith Tabernacle on West Pacific inviting all under 15. The event features entertainers including the Three M's band the Rainbow Twins Shirley Fields Joe Lynn Tullery Becky Gage and Bill Otis with a free Shetland pony giveaway as the finale.
