Exxon dedicated the Hawkins Inert Gas Generation Plant a $70 million complex near Hawkins Texas two miles north of town. The project will convert natural gas into inert nitrogen for injection into 37 wells to boost recovery from the field already producing about 5,000 barrels daily. U S Rep Sam B Hall Jr spoke at the ceremony with Exxon executives noting the plant will extend field life toward 2000 and that more regulation may follow.

Five Year Old Struck by Car in Gladewater
A five year old boy was admitted to Gladewater Municipal Hospital in fair condition after being struck by a car in the 700 block of South Tyler Street. Eyewitnesses say the child darted into the path of the vehicle driven by Kenneth W. Wright of Overton. no charges had been filed as of Wednesday and the crash was investigated by Officer Atwood and Sgt. Garriott.
