Gregg County Tops Texas Travel Receipts in 1976
Gregg County received 50.202 million dollars of Texas travel receipts in 1976, ranking 18th among 264 counties. The county saw 17 percent growth from 1975 with 42.978 million. It housed 1,950 travel jobs and paid 11.367 million in payroll plus 1.9962 million in state and 400,800 local taxes.

Santa Claus to lead Gladewater Christmas parade Monday
The Gladewater annual Christmas parade sponsored by Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce will stage at 4 p.m. with a new route. Parade chairman Lonnie Van Zandt announced Friday’s entry list featuring police, Color Guard, Santa on a fire truck, high school bands and floats from local schools and businesses.

Community events fill week with luncheons, registration, and programs
The Chamber of Commerce hosts a noon luncheon Tuesday at the chamber building. Texas Eastern University opens spring registration Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. St. Marks Episcopal Church invites all to Advent family night at 7 p.m. Monday with wreath lighting and games. A Christmas baskets planning meeting is Friday at 10 a.m. in the Lee Library auditorium. The Sweet Adelines from Longview perform Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Cave Inn. The GHS Band Booster club meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the band hall to plan events. A sacred music program is Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the First Baptist sanctuary. Mrs Jade Allen and students present a drama program Thursday afternoon for AARP.
