Mirror family grows as Wanda and Gene wed at Memorial Baptist

Wanda Poston and Gene Nash of Longview wed Nov. 7 at Memorial Baptist Church. Gene, now joining Wanda in Longview, commutes for his job while helping print the Mirror. Others include Mrs. Helen Pierce recovering after surgery at Medical Center Tyler, and Misses Maria and Linda of Houston visiting Mrs. Kersh and learning to throw papers. Kilgore College intramural results feature Mean Cheans winning and Nancy Waters on the winning team.

Reverend Risinger Joins East Texas Baptist College Board

The Rev B F Risinger pastor of Gladewater First Baptist Church was elected to ETBC board of trustees for a three year term by the Baptist General Convention of Texas at the Corpus Christi annual convention. He joins 14 others on the 45 member panel with R B Smith of Hawkins re elected for three years.

Double rites for Parsons couple in Whitehouse area

Funeral services were held for Michael Travis Parsons and Dorothy Morris Parsons, a Whitehouse pair killed in a Sunday two vehicle crash on State Highway 31. The 27 year old railroad employee and his 71 year old wife, a Henderson native, were laid to rest at West Mountain Cemetery with Rev. H L Petty and Rev. Herman Reagh officiating. They left two children, Kevin and Terri Lynn, and were survived by parents and a sister.

White Oak Council Votes Bank Change to City Bank

The White Oak City council in regular session voted to move the depository from East Texas Bank and Trust Company to White Oak State Bank for convenience. City engineer Perry Thompson reported progress on sewer line installation in North Park subdivision and discussed paving plans for Orchid Street. The council agreed to buy a walkie talkie for the police department and purchase street construction signs with all members present.

Gladewater High buffet lunch under USDA scrutiny

USDA officials from Dallas and Washington examined Gladewater High School’s buffet style lunch program in operation since April. They praised its efficiency and student appeal while noting nationwide concerns over low high school lunch participation.

Shot Fired At Gladewater Woman On Highway 135

A Gladewater woman reported to Gregg County Sheriff that a shot was fired at her car on Highway 135 near Fay's Goat Farm Monday night. Deputies examined the vehicle and found a bullet hole in the left front near the driver. Suspect vehicle described as two tone blue. The woman's address is JC Park Road Gladewater.

Winona Man Found Dead After Rain Accident

Nathaniel Edward Curbo Jr., 50, of Winona, was found dead early Tuesday in 12 feet of water in a creek off FM 757. Justice of the Peace labeled the death a drowning due to a car accident. The scene occurred 13 miles east of Tyler in Smith County where a DPS official said he ran off the road in the rain, struck a bridge, and fell into the water.
