Gladewater Christmas parade entries total 60 units announced

Gladewater officials announced 60 units for the Monday 4 p.m. downtown Christmas parade. Kilgore College Rangerettes lead the list with six bands and diverse entrants from area schools, clubs, and civic groups. call Chamber of Commerce before Friday 4 p.m. for float entries. A separate police report notes a break in at Spencer Heads with over $600 in items stolen and two arrests.

Callahan rites Monday for Britton M. Callahan Sr.

Funeral services for Britton M. Callahan Sr., 80, of the Joy Community, were held Monday at 2 pm at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martyn Henry officiating. Burial was in Morris Cemetery near Gilmer. Callahan died Saturday in Good Shepherd Hospital Longview after a brief illness. Pallbearers were David Haynes, Robert Haynes, Bennett Williams, Ray Player, Ray Bostick, and Jimmy Merritt. He was born January 1897 in Callahan County, Texas and lived in the area 60 years. Survivors include six daughters, three sons, a brother, 20 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Krueger Attacks Tower In East Texas Campaign Stop

U S Representative Robert Krueger challenged Senator John Tower during a Longview campaign stop as part of his bid for the Democratic nomination to face Tower in November. Big Sandy Citizens Group Plans Town Meeting on Police Reserve

A Big Sandy town meeting is set for Thursday December 8 at the Community Center to discuss the volunteer police reserve unit. Jerry Gentry chairs Citizens for a Better Big Sandy and supporters urge retention of the one member unit after a council vote to dismiss it. James Bo Patterson reports about 30 attendees and notes the council action was challenged as illegal by City Attorney Lowell Holt.

Graveside rites for Joe L. Russ

Graveside services for Joe Lee Russ were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Rock Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Mixon officiating. Arrangements were under Malcolm Stone Funeral Home. Russ, 69, died Monday after a lengthy illness. A native of Tatum he lived here two years, a retired farmer. Survived by five brothers H. E. Russ Union Grove Reuben Russ Jim Russ and Odie Russ Houston Olen Russ Louisiana several nieces and nephews. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Christmas chimes in concert at First Baptist Gladewater

The Music Ministry at the First Baptist Church of Gladewater plans weekday noon tower chime concerts from December 1 through Christmas. Each brief performance features traditional Christmas carols heard citywide during lunch hours and shopping trips. The chimes were donated by the late Mrs Loyce Phillips as a community Christmas gift.
