Walker rites held Saturday
Funeral services for W. P. Walker Sr. age 98 were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tim York and Rev. Dean Simmons presiding. Burial followed in Rock Springs Cemetery. Walker, a Gladewater resident since 1949, died Thursday evening after a long illness while living at Oak Manor Nursing Home. He was born June 17, 1879 in Curance Mississippi and was a retired farmer and Methodist. Survivors include wife Mary Bell. six sons W. P. Jr Franklin W. C. Bill all of city. Jake Bethany La Vernon New London James Marshall. four daughters Faye Stevenson Callaway Pace Hoegenauer. 31 grandchildren 42 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

J C Kennard dies final rites Sunday
The body of Joseph C. Kennard 70 was found at a South Tyler Road residence near the Dixie Motel. Officials ruled natural causes. Funeral Sunday 2 at Croley Funeral Home Chapel Gilmer with burial in Glenwood Cemetery. He was a Upshur County native, WWII veteran and retired farmer. Survived by three sisters Fay Starr Addie Hefner Otha Nell Farr.

The City Planning and Zoning Commission approved a change request for a five acre tract at Ferry and West Commerce, enabling a privately owned and financed 97 unit apartment complex. The Commission sent the proposal forward with a recommendation for approval.

Armed Robbery Leaves Man Wounded In Tyler Area
A man was robbed at gunpoint in the 600 block of S Tyler Road at 8 33 p m. A small chrome pistol discharged striking the victim in the left hand. The assailants stole 756 dollars and fled on foot. Police describe two black males, seek leads. The victim was treated and released. Det Geddie notes the case is ongoing with no arrests.

Allen Fouty in Serious Condition After Aneurysm Surgery
Allen Fouty lies in Methodist Hospital Houston in serious condition awaiting Monday surgery for a brain aneurysm. He and his wife recently moved to Corsicana two weeks ago, and relatives report he recognizes family members but is otherwise limited. A family friend says he is able to recognize loved ones.
