Tyler DPS Officers to Face Lions Club in Charity Softball Clash

Explosion claims Kilgore man Wayne Rawls in oil lease blast

A Kilgore man, Wayne Rawls, 22, was found fatally burned in his car after an oilfield explosion on the J B Watson lease near Kilgore. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours as investigators probed a possible gas pipeline leak sparked by a car spark. Rawls had lived in Kilgore since 1959 and worked for Gibson Drilling Company. Funeral services set for 2 p.m Thursday at St Pauls Episcopal Church Kilgore with burial at Kilgore. Other notices follow.

Opening Day Enrollment at Grade Schools in 1972 73

The first day of the 1972-73 school year on August 21 was smooth, with Supt. Roy Johnson noting facilities and staff were ready. Enrollment reached 1,816 by Tuesday, up 21 from last year, with Gay Ave 378, Broadway 426, Middle 472, and GHS 512. Kindergarten at Gay Ave totals 119. plans include an athletic dressing facility at the school park set to begin in about two weeks.
