Warren Pleads Guilty To Filing 2 Incorrect Tax Returns
John W. Warren of Mineola pleaded guilty to two counts of willfully filing false income tax returns for 1967 and 1968. The case was before Judge William Wayne Justice in Tyler. Warren admitted taking 3242.66 in 1967 and 13823.92 in 1968 while treasurer of a church, with sentencing in two to three weeks pending probation report.

Property Owners Protest Traffic and Sign Move
In a late summer session the city council heard a five member property owners delegation protest traffic on Harold Street and voted to raise Gay Ave speed limit to 40 mph between East Lake Drive and Hendricks Street. The council also agreed to city takeover of Lake Gladewater concession operations. Virgil Wallace reported airport progress and state grant packaging for a 4000 foot runway with lights and beacon. He noted increasing use of the airport by light plane owners.

Potts to retire after 38 years with Texas agriculture
J W Jimmy Potts will retire August 31 ending a 38 year career with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. Since 1949 he has been an assistant editor and writer of statewide crop and weather reports for news services. He earlier served as county agricultural agent in Harris and Garza counties and won a 1970 Texas County Agricultural Agents Association award along with three honors from the Texas Farm and Ranch Safety Council.

Jerrell Huffman president of the Longview Kiwanis Club says 30 Gladewater men signed a petition to establish Kiwanis International organization here. Charter members will retain status as organizers with future officer elections planned. Charles Rolph Named Purchasing Agent at Municipal Hospital
Administrator Bill Wagner announced Charles Rolph has taken the role at Municipal Hospital. A retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and Maryland native, Rolph lives in Greggton Longview with his wife Ernestine Gilchriest and their three children.
